New Delhi, May 5: Amid ongoing political turmoil in Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is set to meet President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi along with several legislators from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). This meeting comes as party leaders, including Mann, have indicated its significance in light of recent issues concerning party defectors in the Rajya Sabha.
Before departing for Delhi, Chief Minister Mann expressed confidence that the President would listen to their concerns, stating, “I believe the President will hear our worries. As the guardian of the Constitution, it is her responsibility to uphold it. She is the constitutional head of the country.”
Punjab’s Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema remarked, “All 95 AAP legislators are going to meet the President of India. We will request her to utilize the powers granted by the Constitution. The concept of recall should be implemented. Only Punjab can stop the BJP’s attempts to undermine democracy and attack the Constitution. Punjab will fight to restore democracy.”
Minister Hardip Singh Mundian emphasized the necessity of the meeting, saying, “We are meeting the President because those who have left the party have no right to remain Rajya Sabha members from Punjab.”
Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO noted, “Today, under the leadership of our Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, we are going to meet the President of India.”
Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak added, “We will not make any demands that are outside the scope of the Constitution. There is significant anger among the people of Punjab, and today, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, we will meet the President of India to present our request.”
AAP leader and State General Secretary Baltej Pannu stated, “We will meet President Droupadi Murmu. The President will be informed about how the party and legislators sent these seven MPs to the Rajya Sabha, but they have stabbed the party in the back. This is not about showing strength; the assembly session has just occurred, and everyone expressed confidence in Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s chairmanship. Therefore, we do not need to repeatedly demonstrate strength. However, it is our fundamental right to meet the President and inform her about the current situation.”
