New Delhi, September 4: Former Australian fast bowler Peter Siddle has joined New South Wales as the bowling coach for the 2026-27 season. He will be part of the coaching team led by Brad Haddin, with South African Johan Botha serving as the spin bowling coach. While taking up this role, Siddle will continue his association with the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League (BBL).
After his appointment, Siddle expressed his excitement, stating, “Joining New South Wales this season is very thrilling. I am eagerly looking forward to mentoring these talented players before this fantastic summer. I can’t wait to get started.”
Head coach Haddin remarked, “The inclusion of Peter and Johan in our coaching setup shows our commitment to having high-quality individuals in the team. Peter not only brings a wealth of experience but also exemplifies the way we want our cricketers to play. We are confident that we have built a strong coaching team ahead of an exciting season for the Blues.”
The New South Wales team includes fast bowlers Liam Hatcher, Ryan Hadley, all-rounder Jack Edwards, Sean Abbott, and Ben Dwarshuis. Hatcher is part of the Australia A squad set to play a Test and ODI series against India. All these fast bowlers will benefit from Siddle’s international and league cricket experience.
The spin department features Joel Davies and Tanveer Sangha. Joel is part of the Australian team heading to South Africa and Zimbabwe for the ODI series, while Tanveer is included in the white-ball leg of Australia A’s tour to India.
New South Wales will kick off their season on September 22 with a one-day cup match against Queensland, followed by their first Sheffield Shield match against Tasmania on October 8.
Reflecting on Siddle’s career, the 41-year-old fast bowler took 221 wickets in 67 Tests, 17 wickets in 10 ODIs, and 3 wickets in T20s before retiring from international cricket in 2019. He remains active in the T20 format, having claimed 196 wickets in a total of 164 matches.
