Bengaluru, March 8 : The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had a sensational start in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025, securing a record chase of 202 runs against Gujarat Giants in their opening match and later defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) by eight wickets. However, a disastrous home campaign—losing all four matches—has now pushed them to the brink of elimination from the playoff race.

With just four points from six matches, RCB can only reach a maximum of eight points by winning their remaining two matches against UP Warriorz and Mumbai Indians. Meanwhile, Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians already have eight points, and Delhi Capitals (10 points) have sealed a playoff spot.
Although the path is challenging, RCB still controls its fate, but they need to secure wins and closely monitor the net run rate (NRR) battle with Mumbai and Gujarat. Fortunately for RCB, UP Warriorz are already out of the playoff race, giving them an opportunity to capitalize.
RCB’s Playoff Hopes Depend on Must-Win Clash Against UP Warriorz
RCB’s playoff dreams hinge on their upcoming match against UP Warriorz on Saturday. A loss would mean immediate elimination. However, a win would keep their chances alive, but they must also watch the result of the Mumbai Indians vs Gujarat Giants game to assess their NRR requirements.
Currently, Gujarat has a better NRR than Mumbai, but RCB has one advantage—their final league game is against Mumbai. As things stand, RCB trails Mumbai’s NRR by approximately 60 runs.
How RCB Can Qualify for the Playoffs:
- If RCB beats UP Warriorz by 10 runs and Gujarat defeats Mumbai by 10 runs, RCB would only need to defeat Mumbai by 20 runs to qualify.
- To overtake Gujarat, RCB must win both their matches by a combined margin of at least 62 runs, assuming Gujarat only beats Mumbai by 10 runs.
The equation makes it mathematically possible for RCB to sneak into the playoffs, but it all starts with a must-win game against UP Warriorz.
Can Delhi Capitals Secure a Direct Final Berth?
Despite Delhi Capitals finishing at the top of the league stage, their direct qualification for the final is still not confirmed. This is because both Mumbai and Gujarat still have a chance to overtake them.
- Mumbai Indians can claim the top spot if they win both their remaining matches.
- Gujarat Giants can also finish first if they defeat Mumbai by a large margin.
- If Gujarat beats Mumbai by 17 runs (assuming a first-innings score of 180) or chases with 12 balls to spare, they will surpass Delhi’s NRR.
Currently, Mumbai trails Delhi’s NRR by about 30 runs. If they lose one match by 10 runs, they would then need to win the other game by at least 40 runs to claim the top spot.
The final league matches will be crucial in deciding Delhi’s direct entry into the final or if they have to play the eliminator.
RCB’s Fate Hangs in the Balance
The stakes couldn’t be higher for RCB as they enter a do-or-die phase in WPL 2025. Can they seize their final opportunity to stay in contention, or will their journey come to an end?
With the playoff race intensifying, every run and every wicket will be critical in determining the final standings. The upcoming matches promise intense action, drama, and potential heartbreaks as teams battle for a spot in the knockouts.
