The person who does not work hard cannot win three major titles in a flash. And the last 10 days at Wimbledon have shown that he has luck on his side as well.
On Center Court on Friday, the 21-year-old Alcaraz put on a similar performance as he has throughout the tournament, weathering a storm from Daniil Medvedev in the first set before winning 6-7(1), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.
In the title match, the third-seeded player will face seven-time winner Novak Djokovic, who defeated Italian Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 7-6(2), 6-4.
“I don’t think I’m the new kid anymore,” defending champion Alcaraz said of the final. “I know how I’m going to feel and I’ll do everything I did last year. I hope it’s a good day for the Spanish people.”
The last sentence was a reference to the Euro 2024 final between Spain and England on Sunday, and the British crowd in the stadium hooted. Alcaraz tried to explain more, but the truth was that he had already done enough with his tennis in the past three hours to please the crowd.
