KwaZulu-Natal, September 27 (Udaipur Kiran) : A severe road accident in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, occurred early Sunday morning, claiming the lives of 11 individuals and leaving eight others in critical condition. According to police reports, the collision involved a minibus taxi and a truck, which collided head-on around 4 AM local time (0200 GMT) on the N2 highway in the Inkosi Mtubatuba municipality.
The minibus taxi, traveling north, struck a truck heading south. Eyewitnesses reported a loud bang followed by the vehicle catching fire. The injured, including those who suffered burns, were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities from the Road Traffic Management Corporation, in collaboration with police, are investigating the cause of the accident. Minibus taxis are a primary mode of public transport in South Africa but are frequently involved in fatal incidents.
This tragic event follows another accident in the Western Cape province on September 13, where 21 people lost their lives in a crash involving two minibus taxis and a station wagon. At that time, local police had initially reported 18 fatalities, but the death toll was later confirmed to be 21 by the Western Cape Mobility Department.
