New Delhi, September 27 (Udaipur Kiran) : Yoga is a natural way to maintain both physical and mental health. One particularly beneficial pose is Shashakasana, named after the Sanskrit word for rabbit, as the body’s shape resembles that of a rabbit during its practice. While it appears simple, the advantages of this asana are quite impactful.
According to the Ministry of AYUSH, Shashakasana is easy to practice and can be done in any calm environment. To begin, sit in Vajrasana on a yoga mat, ensuring your spine is straight. Gradually spread your knees apart while keeping your big toes touching.
Take a deep breath and place both palms on the ground between your knees. Slowly exhale as you lean forward, aiming to rest your chin on the ground. Keep your arms parallel and straight, looking ahead while maintaining normal breathing for 10 to 30 seconds. Afterward, gently return to the Vajrasana position. Beginners should practice this pose according to their capability and gradually increase the duration.
Regular practice of Shashakasana yields numerous physical and mental benefits. It is particularly effective in reducing stress and anxiety. The forward bend calms the mind and relaxes the brain.
This pose is also a boon for the digestive system, alleviating constipation, strengthening digestion, and addressing stomach-related disorders. Additionally, it helps tighten the pelvic area, relieves back pain, and enhances spinal flexibility.
Although Shashakasana is a straightforward pose, it should be avoided in certain situations. Individuals suffering from severe back pain or osteoarthritis in the knees should refrain from practicing it. It is advisable to consult a yoga expert or doctor in case of any serious health issues.
