Kolkata, September 26 (Udaipur Kiran) : West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari responded to ongoing media reports about the ‘West Bengal Public Safety and Control of Anti-Social Activities Bill, 2026’ on September 27. In a post on the social media platform X, he urged citizens not to fall for rumors, emphasizing that “the truth will prevail.”
His comments came in light of a fact check by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), which clarified that the President has not returned the bill but that it is still under consideration. Adhikari accused some political opponents and vested interests of deliberately spreading false news and misleading claims regarding the bill.
He stated, “The truth behind baseless propaganda and malicious rumors has come to light. Certain political opponents and individuals working for their own benefit are intentionally disseminating false news. They claim that the President of India has returned the ‘West Bengal Public Safety and Control of Anti-Social Activities Bill, 2026.’ Do not believe these unverified rumors. The truth will prevail.”
The state government had previously dismissed media reports suggesting that the President had returned the bill, asserting that it is currently under review by the Ministry of Home Affairs. PIB fact checks have also labeled those media claims as misleading and incorrect, stating that the bill is still in the examination process.
According to official statements, the central government has not communicated any information regarding the bill’s return, reaffirming that it remains under consideration. Some reports had claimed that President Droupadi Murmu had sent the proposed bill back for reconsideration, with assertions that one of its provisions might overlap with central narcotics laws. However, the state government has refuted these claims, labeling them as unfounded.
