The weather is taking a dramatic turn as several states brace for rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for multiple regions, forecasting significant weather changes over the next few days.

Fresh Snowfall in Kashmir, Rain in Plains
Kashmir witnessed fresh snowfall on Friday, with popular tourist destinations like Gulmarg, Sonmarg, and Pahalgam blanketed in snow overnight. Meanwhile, intermittent rain lashed the plains. Authorities reported snowfall in Anantnag, Zojila Pass, Banihal, Sadhna Pass, Machil (Kupwara), and Rajdan Pass (Bandipora).
According to IMD, the weather in Kashmir will remain largely dry between February 22-24, though cloudy skies will persist. However, between February 25-28, moderate rain or snowfall is expected at most places, with heavy precipitation likely in some areas. Notably, Kashmir has experienced an unusually dry winter, with January and February recording an 80% rainfall deficit.
Delhi-NCR Sees Light Rain, Temperature Drops
The national capital and surrounding areas experienced light rain, bringing a slight dip in temperature. The IMD has predicted that this wet spell will continue for the next two to three days, keeping temperatures relatively low.
Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Expected in Odisha, West Bengal, and Jharkhand
A major weather system is set to impact eastern India. IMD forecasts scattered to widespread thunderstorms in Odisha on February 22 and 23, accompanied by wind speeds reaching 40-60 km/h and possible lightning strikes.
West Bengal and Jharkhand will also witness similar conditions over the weekend, with wind speeds ranging between 30-40 km/h. The risk of lightning and moderate to heavy rainfall remains high in these states.
Rajasthan Sees Light Showers Amid Dry Conditions
Rajasthan recorded light rainfall in parts of Hanumangarh district, with Sangaria receiving 0.5 mm of rain in the past 24 hours. Despite these showers, most of the state remains dry. IMD has predicted partial cloud cover and light drizzle in western Rajasthan’s border areas today. However, the overall forecast suggests a prolonged dry spell over the next four to five days.
Temperatures are expected to drop by 2-4°C during this period, with minimum temperatures dipping by 2-3°C. From February 23 onwards, a gradual rise in temperature is anticipated.
Bihar, Sikkim Also on Alert
Similar weather conditions are expected in Bihar and Sikkim, where light rainfall and strong winds are likely over the next 48 hours.
As the weather continues to fluctuate, authorities advise residents in affected areas to stay updated with forecasts and take necessary precautions against lightning, strong winds, and sudden temperature changes.
