Montevideo, March 19 – Uruguay’s head coach Marcelo Bielsa has announced six new players for the upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Bolivia.
The newly selected players hail from local clubs, including forward Pablo Suarez, midfielders German Barbas and Erico Cuelo, defender Patricio Pacifico, center-back Paolo Callejon, and winger Lucas Agazzi.
As expected, key international stars such as Liverpool forward Darwin Núñez, Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde, Tottenham’s Rodrigo Bentancur, and Barcelona defender Ronald Araújo have also been named in the squad.
Uruguay is set to face Argentina in Montevideo on Friday, followed by an away fixture against Bolivia in El Alto next Tuesday.
With 20 points from 12 matches, Uruguay currently sits second in the South American qualifying group, while Argentina leads the standings with 25 points.
