Real Madrid Stay on Top of La Liga After 1–0 Win Over Getafe
Madrid, October 20 (Udaipur Kiran): Real Madrid maintained their position at the top of the La Liga standings after securing a 1–0 victory over Getafe, thanks to a decisive goal from Kylian Mbappe.

The French forward netted the match’s only goal in the 80th minute, scoring his 10th goal of the season to seal the win for Los Blancos. Real Madrid’s task became easier when Getafe defender Allan Nyom was shown a red card in the 77th minute, reducing the visitors to ten men.
Getafe’s situation worsened in the 84th minute, when Alex Sancres was also sent off following a foul, leaving the team with just nine players. Despite a spirited effort, Getafe failed to mount a comeback, and Real Madrid comfortably held on to their narrow lead.
Earlier on Sunday, Elche and Athletic Club played out a goalless draw (0–0). Elche managed to extend their unbeaten home record, while Athletic’s players were left frustrated as their chances were repeatedly denied by goalkeeper Unai Simon.
Celta Vigo’s wait for their first league win of the season also continued after a 1–1 draw with Real Sociedad — marking their seventh draw in nine matches.
On Saturday, Ronald Araujo’s stoppage-time goal (93rd minute) earned FC Barcelona a 2–1 win over Girona at Camp Nou, helping them stay close to their rivals in the title race.
With this result, Real Madrid remain at the top of the La Liga table with 24 points from eight wins and one loss. Barcelona sit second with 22 points from nine matches (seven wins, one draw, one loss), while Villarreal occupy third place with 17 points from five wins, two draws, and two defeats.
