Pratapgarh: A 40-year-old forest ranger was killed after a dumper hit his bike and dragged him for around 50 metres while he was trying to stop illegal mining in Pratapgarh district.
The incident happened around 11:30 pm on Monday in the Chhoti Sadri police station area. The deceased has been identified as Ranger Pratap Singh Chundawat, a resident of Medi Ka Amra in Shambhupura, Chittorgarh.
Pratap Singh had reached near Shri Ghatiwale Balaji Temple after receiving information about illegal mining. A dumper loaded with soil hit his bike at the spot.
Died During Treatment
Chhoti Sadri SHO Kailash Chandra Soni said police received information at around 11:45 pm about the accident.
A police team reached the spot and took the injured ranger to Chhoti Sadri hospital. As his condition was serious, he was referred to the district hospital in Nimbahera. He died during treatment late on Monday night.
The FSL team also visited the spot and collected samples.
Tried to Stop Dumper
According to police, illegal soil excavation was being carried out near a pond with the help of a JCB.
When the ranger reached the spot, the JCB and dumper drivers started leaving the area. The ranger followed the dumper on his Bullet motorcycle and tried to stop it.
The dumper then hit his bike and dragged him for around 50 metres. The dumper and JCB drivers fled from the spot after the incident.
