New Delhi, December 24: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Women’s Selection Committee has announced the Indian squad for the upcoming ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025, scheduled to take place in Malaysia from January 18 to February 2, 2025. Niki Prasad has been named the captain of the side, while Sanika Chalke will serve as the vice-captain.
Niki Prasad recently led the Indian team to victory in the Under-19 Women’s Asia Cup, defeating Bangladesh in the final. Her leadership skills and performance have been pivotal in shaping the team’s success.
Tournament Overview
The ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 will feature 16 teams, divided into four groups of four teams each. Defending champions India have been placed in Group A alongside host nation Malaysia, West Indies, and Sri Lanka.
All of India’s group-stage matches will take place at the Bayumas Oval in Kuala Lumpur. The team’s campaign will kick off on January 19, 2025, against the West Indies.
Format and Progression
- Group Stage:
Each group’s top three teams will qualify for the Super Six stage. - Super Six Stage:
The 12 qualifying teams will be divided into two groups:- Group 1: Top three teams from Groups A and D.
- Group 2: Top three teams from Groups B and C.
Teams will carry forward their points, wins, and Net Run Rate (NRR) from the group stage against other qualified teams.
Each team will play two matches against opponents from the opposite group.
- Knockouts:
The top two teams from each Super Six group will advance to the semi-finals, scheduled for January 31, 2025. The tournament’s final will take place on February 2, 2025.
