In a post from their official X handle, Punjab Police stated, “Fact Check. Incorrect Advisory. No instructions or advisory have been issued by the Punjab Police Headquarters or any of its offices regarding officers not wearing uniforms while commuting to or from duty.” The police emphasized that these misleading messages should be ignored.
The police have urged both citizens and officers to rely solely on official channels for accurate information. Recently, a message claiming that Punjab Police Headquarters instructed personnel to travel in plain clothes for security reasons had been spreading rapidly on social media and WhatsApp groups, creating confusion among both officers and the public.
To clear up this misunderstanding, Punjab Police felt it necessary to provide an official clarification. Police officials noted that such fake news not only affects the morale of the police force but also fosters misconceptions among the general public.
Punjab Police has appealed to individuals to verify the authenticity of any information before sharing it and to trust only verified social media accounts and the official website of the police.
