Upasana Singh Opens Up About Casting Couch Experience: Confronted a Director Publicly

Renowned for her role as “Bua” on The Kapil Sharma Show, actress Upasana Singh has captivated audiences with her comedic timing and charm. However, behind the laughter lies a harrowing experience of facing the casting couch, which she recently shared in an interview with Siddharth Kannan. Upasana revealed how she boldly confronted a prominent director who made inappropriate advances, showcasing courage and resilience in an industry fraught with challenges.

The Incident: A Director’s Inappropriate Invitation

During the interview, Upasana recounted an incident involving a well-known South Indian director, who had cast her opposite Anil Kapoor in a film. She revealed how she always brought her mother or sister along when meeting directors, a practice that seemed to bother the filmmaker.

“One day, he asked why I always brought someone with me. Later that night, around 11:30 PM, he called and asked me to meet him at a hotel for a ‘sitting,’” she said. When Upasana expressed her inability to meet, citing a lack of transport, the director responded, “You don’t understand what a ‘sitting’ means.”

The Bold Confrontation

Disturbed by the incident, Upasana couldn’t sleep that night. The following morning, she decided to take action. “I went straight to his Bandra office, where he was in a meeting with three others. His secretary asked me to wait, but I barged in and publicly humiliated him,” she said, adding that she delivered a strong rebuke in Punjabi.

Though her actions earned her respect, they came at a professional cost. Upasana recalled being informed that she had been dropped from the film opposite Anil Kapoor. “I walked out of his office and broke down on the streets. I couldn’t stop crying, thinking about what I would tell people.”

Emotional Aftermath

The aftermath of the incident was emotionally taxing for Upasana. “I stayed in my room for seven days, crying and wondering how to explain what had happened. But those seven days made me stronger,” she shared. Upasana credited her mother for providing unwavering support during this difficult time.
