Major Crackdown on Illegal E-Scooter Sales in Rajasthan
Udaipur, April 4, 2025 — In a significant enforcement move, the Udaipur Transport Department has seized 16 electric scooters from an Ola showroom operating in violation of vehicle trading regulations. The surprise inspection, led by District Transport Officer Nitin Bohra, was part of a broader initiative to clamp down on unauthorized vehicle sales across the city and surrounding rural areas.
Showroom Lacked Mandatory Trade Certificate
During the raid at the showroom located in the Govardhan Vilas area of Udaipur, officials discovered that the business was selling e-scooters without possessing a valid Trade Certificate — a mandatory requirement under Indian transport regulations. Regional Transport Officer Gyandev Vishwakarma confirmed that legal action has been initiated against the showroom owner, including a substantial penalty for non-compliance.
“Dealerships engaged in selling two-wheelers and four-wheelers must hold a valid Trade Certificate issued by the Transport Department,” said Vishwakarma. “Selling vehicles without this certification is illegal and poses a serious risk to consumers.”
Special Task Force Formed for Future Raids
According to officials, unauthorized vehicle sales are increasingly being reported not only within city limits but also in outlying rural zones. To counter this, the Udaipur Transport Department has formed a special task force that will conduct rigorous inspections across the district in the coming days.
The department has urged consumers to verify the credentials of dealerships and ensure that vehicles are purchased from certified sellers only. Authorities emphasized that further action will be taken against those found violating transport laws.
