New Delhi, October 4 (Udaipur Kiran) : A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed by the Kishangarh police in New Delhi regarding the death of a PhD scholar from IIT Delhi. The scholar was found unconscious and injured in his rented accommodation in Munirka village on August 18, 2026. Neighbors had to break down the door to reach him.
Following the incident, the police transported the injured scholar to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he received treatment for over 45 days. Unfortunately, he passed away on October 3, 2026, during his medical care.
The FIR was registered based on a complaint from the security officer of IIT Delhi and directives from the Supreme Court. Authorities clarified that the incident did not occur on the IIT campus but in the scholar’s rented residence in Munirka.
So far, the police have stated that neither the family of the deceased nor any witnesses have raised suspicions or accusations against anyone. At the time of the incident, the scholar was reportedly alone in the house, a fact corroborated by footage from CCTV cameras outside the property.
The police have commenced an investigation following the filing of the FIR. This tragic event has reignited discussions about the stress faced by IIT students, especially given that the scholar could not be saved despite extensive medical intervention.
