Vice President Emphasizes Non-Violence and Forgiveness at Jain Festival

New Delhi, October 4 (Udaipur Kiran) : Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan addressed the Mahaprav Kshamapana Ceremony-2026, organized by the Bhagwan Mahavir Memorial Committee and the Jain Mahasabha in New Delhi on October 4. He described the event as a celebration of universal values such as forgiveness, friendship, non-violence, and inner purity.

During his speech, Radhakrishnan emphasized the deep relevance of Jain principles of forgiveness in today’s world, stating that it transcends mere ritual and represents an opportunity for transformation of the human heart. He highlighted the historical connection between Tamil Nadu and Jainism, noting the significant contributions of Jain scholars and monks to Tamil literature and culture, as well as the presence of ancient Jain temples and educational centers throughout Tamil Nadu.

The Vice President reiterated the universal message of Jain philosophy, which advocates friendship towards all living beings and resonates with India’s civilizational ethos of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family). He pointed out that in a world rife with conflict and violence, the teachings of Lord Mahavir pave the way for peace, dialogue, coexistence, and compassion.

Radhakrishnan further elaborated that non-violence is not merely the absence of physical aggression but includes the absence of violence in thought, word, and deed. He reminded the audience that true strength lies in conquering anger, intolerance, and revenge.

On the subject of forgiveness, he clarified that it does not mean accepting injustice or compromising on truth. Instead, he encouraged choosing reconciliation over hostility, dialogue over hatred, and improvement over revenge. He noted that the spirit of repentance can assist individuals and families in acknowledging mistakes and resolving conflicts.

In discussing the vision for a developed India, Radhakrishnan stated that progress should extend beyond economic prosperity and modern infrastructure to include trust among citizens, values within families, character among youth, and compassion in society. He called for nurturing humility, compassion, service, unity, and responsibility as essential values in the journey toward a developed India.

At the event, he also presented the Jain Samaj Ratna Award to K.C. Jain, with several dignitaries, including Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, in attendance.
