Two Arrested for Online Gaming App Fraud in Noida

Noida, December 9 (Udaipur Kiran) – Police from the Cyber Police Station and Phase One police station have arrested two main accused involved in cheating people by promising profits through online gaming and betting apps. The accused were running a call centre in Sector-2 to carry out the fraud. Authorities have seized seven laptops and eight mobile phones used in the scam.

DCP Noida Yamuna Prasad said that acting on a tip-off, joint police teams raided a building in Sector-2 on Tuesday. The accused, Sachin Goswami from Muzaffarnagar and Kunal Goswami from Ghaziabad, were cheating people by trapping them in online gaming and betting app schemes.

The accused initially gave small profits to lure people. Later, they deliberately caused customers to lose large sums on the app. The entire amount wagered by the victims was then transferred to the accused through the app. Police officials stated that gaming and betting apps are banned in the country, yet Sachin and Kunal advertised these apps on social media. They had access to data of people searching about these apps.

Women working at the call centre called individuals who searched for information about these apps, convincing them they could earn profits. The accused sent app links and collected money from users by creating IDs and passwords on various gaming platforms. The stolen funds were transferred to multiple mule accounts. Initially, small winnings were given to build trust.

The hall in Sector-2 used for the scam was rented for Rs 25,000 per month. Neither Sachin nor Kunal had any documents or registration related to running a call centre or gaming app. They used fake identity cards to obtain SIM cards, which were then used in the fraud. Sachin, 33, holds an MBA, and Kunal has a BBA. Both currently reside in Delhi and have previously worked in private companies.

The women employed for calling were paid salaries ranging from Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 per month. After questioning, the police issued notices to these women and released them. The call centre has been shut down. The seized mobile phones are expected to provide important information related to the scam.
