Bareilly, September 18 (Udaipur Kiran) : Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Bareilvi, the president of the All India Muslim Jamaat, expressed on Friday that the need for reservation in India has diminished significantly. Speaking in Bareilly amidst ongoing debates in Maharashtra regarding reservation policies, he stated that the economic conditions of many people have improved drastically over the years.
Bareilvi pointed out that families who once lived in makeshift homes are now residing in permanent structures. He noted a remarkable shift in the purchasing power of individuals, mentioning that those who once struggled to buy a bicycle now own multiple motorcycles and cars. “Given the substantial changes in economic, social, and educational status, there is no longer a need for reservation; everyone should be granted equal status to eliminate discrimination,” he emphasized.
Addressing the various movements in Maharashtra where communities are demanding reservation, Bareilvi highlighted the pressure these movements place on governments, suggesting a need for reevaluation of the situation. “Over the past two to three decades, the country has made significant progress, and it is time to resolve the issue of reservation and bring it to an end,” he added.
In response to concerns raised by the Congress regarding the OBC quota in the Maratha reservation, BJP legislator Ram Kadam remarked that the Maratha community is aware that Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was the first to grant reservation. He asserted that most of the demands have been met and dismissed the significance of opposing voices, stating that the current state government stands with the people of Maharashtra.
