Udaipur: The Congress candidate for the chairman’s post in Fathnagar-Sanwar Municipality has withdrawn her nomination, leaving a direct contest between BJP candidate Seema and independent candidate Mamta.
The development has intensified the political activity surrounding the chairman’s election. Police also reached a resort where councillors were staying, while former chairman and BJP councillor Rajesh Chaplot received a notice from the Udaipur Development Authority (UDA).
The chairman’s post in Fathnagar-Sanwar Municipality is reserved for an unreserved woman candidate. The municipality has 25 wards, with the BJP winning 13 and the Congress 12.
With the Congress candidate withdrawing her nomination, the contest is now between BJP’s Seema and independent candidate Mamta Chaplot.
Mamta is the wife of former chairman Rajesh Chaplot, who had filed her nomination as an independent candidate.
Police Reach Resort
Amid the election-related developments, police reached a resort where councillors had gathered. The development has added to the political activity ahead of the chairman’s election.
The election process has remained closely watched after the nomination of Mamta Chaplot as an independent candidate.
Former Chairman Receives UDA Notice
Rajesh Chaplot has also received a notice from the Udaipur Development Authority. The notice follows action related to property and alleged illegal construction and land-use issues.
Earlier, a notice concerning Devileela Palace near Sanwar Chauraha was pasted by the Fathnagar-Sanwar Municipality on September 17.
Chaplot’s family had questioned the manner in which the notice was delivered and raised concerns regarding the date and property details mentioned in it.
The chairman election has now entered a crucial stage with only BJP candidate Seema and independent candidate Mamta Chaplot remaining in the contest.
