Udaipur, December 4 (Udaipur Kiran): The solo art exhibition ‘The Space Within’ by senior Gujarat-based artist Devji Shrimali began on Thursday at Bagore Ki Haveli in the city. Devji Shrimali was born in Limbdi, Surendranagar district of Gujarat. The exhibition showcases his distinctive black-and-white drawings.
The exhibition was inaugurated by noted city artist and Director of the Faculty of Visual Arts, Prof. Hemant Dwivedi. A special feature of the exhibition is that the ink used in the artworks has been prepared by the artist himself, and no brush has been used in creating the drawings. All strokes have been made using cloth.
Speaking about his work, Devji Shrimali said that after the Covid period he tried to express the emotional impact of the pandemic through his drawings. Over the past three years, he has created around 8,000 drawings, out of which 65 selected works are on display in this exhibition.
Devji Shrimali is a renowned artist of Gujarat and has received state-level awards from the Gujarat Lalit Kala Akademi in painting, photography and drawing. Last year, he was also honoured with the prestigious Gaurav Award of the Gujarat Lalit Kala Akademi.
On this occasion, Hemant Mehta, Sunil Nimavat, Gaurav Sharma, Shahid Parvez, Sharmila Rathore, Chitrasen and several other artists and art lovers were present. The exhibition will remain open for public viewing free of cost till December 11, from 11 am to 7 pm.
