Antigua : In a riveting contest within the Super-8 stage of the T20 World Cup, the Indian cricket squad clinched a formidable 50-run victory against Bangladesh. Pursuing India’s daunting target of 197 runs, Bangladesh could muster only 146 runs. Hardik Pandya was lauded as the Player of the Match for his exceptional all-round performance.

Bangladesh, embarking on the chase of 197, began with a cautious yet steady start. The opening partnership between Liton Das (13 runs) and Tanzid Hasan (29 runs) yielded 35 runs. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto showcased a commendable innings, scoring 40 runs and propelling the team’s score forward. However, a rapid succession of wickets ensued. Towhid Hridoy (4 runs), Shakib Al Hasan (11 runs), and Zakir Ali (1 run) succumbed quickly. In the end, Mahmudullah (13 runs) and Rishad Hossain (24 runs) made valiant efforts, but they fell short. Consequently, Bangladesh concluded their innings at 146/8 in 20 overs, falling short by 50 runs. For India, Kuldeep Yadav was the chief architect with the ball, claiming three wickets, while Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah secured two wickets each. Hardik Pandya also contributed with a wicket.
Earlier, having lost the toss and being put into bat, the Indian side amassed 196 runs in their stipulated 20 overs. Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli provided a brisk start, accumulating 39 runs for the first wicket. Rohit, scoring 23, fell prey to Shakib Al Hasan. Kohli, in collaboration with Rishabh Pant, added another 32 runs for the second wicket before Kohli departed for 37 runs. Suryakumar Yadav couldn’t anchor the innings and was dismissed for 6 runs off two balls.
With two quick wickets, Pant accelerated the scoring with some crisp shots but was dismissed for 36 runs in an attempt to sustain the scoring momentum. Subsequently, Shivam Dube (34 runs) and Hardik Pandya (an unbeaten 50 runs) forged a crucial partnership, adding 53 runs off 34 balls to elevate the total to 196. For Bangladesh, Rishad Hossain and Tanzim Hasan Sakib each claimed two wickets, while Shakib Al Hasan managed one.
