Student Union Elections Raised at MP Dr. Rawat’s Public Hearing; Over 100 Grievances Addressed On Spot

Udaipur, July 15 – In a public hearing held at the District Council office on Monday, Udaipur MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat received over 100 grievances from citizens across the district, including major issues like student union elections, rural development, and infrastructure demands.

Among the most discussed topics was the demand to resume student union elections at Mohanlal Sukhadia University. A student delegation met the MP urging action, to which Dr. Rawat assured full support. He stated that he will personally meet Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Wednesday to strongly raise the matter, reiterating his belief in democratic representation within student communities.

He added that the past academic session witnessed a peaceful and disciplined environment in the university, making it the right time to reintroduce elections. He emphasized that holding elections would be a step toward restoring democratic rights for students.

Previous Grievances Resolved, Delegations Express Gratitude

Several delegations from areas like Salumber, Sarada, Jaisamand, Jagat, Saira, Gogunda, and Kotda visited the hearing with fresh demands. Some also came to thank the MP for resolving earlier issues. Residents from Sector 4, led by Bhagwatsingh Bhati, expressed gratitude for initiating the underground cabling of the 33kV power line, a request they had made during a previous hearing.

Range of Issues Addressed

Many complaints involved local governance, road connectivity, and education infrastructure:

  • Religious Sentiment Concern: Citizens of Ward 12 Chandpole lodged a complaint about encroachment on a public temple site where a Mahadev idol was reportedly vandalized. The MP discussed the issue with officials.

  • TSP Athletes’ Representation: A memorandum was submitted seeking relaxation in sports eligibility norms for athletes from TSP (Tribal Sub-Plan) areas due to lack of infrastructure. Dr. Rawat assured attention to the issue.

  • Road Approvals: Villagers from Kojawada demanded a new road from Dhelani to Dhakalua Pareda, citing that children walk 5-6 km daily to school.

  • Post Office Condition: A delegation from Bawalwada reported that their post office is running in a dilapidated building and requested its shift to a nearby vacant government room.

  • Transport and ATM Needs: The same delegation also asked for direct transport to Udaipur and Ahmedabad and the reactivation of ATM services in the area.

  • Highway Construction Incomplete: Locals from Kherwara raised concern over the unfinished segment of National Highway 927-A from Kherwara to Garanwas. During monsoon, the road becomes dangerous to travel.

  • Encroachment and Civic Issues: Citizens from Pahada area complained about unauthorized commercial use of drinking water for tanker supply without permission.

  • School Infrastructure: Residents of Khatikmadi and Falsiya demanded approval for boundary walls for their secondary and primary schools.

  • Urban Amenities: Krishna Mohan Dashora of Jogi Talab requested road construction, installation of street lights, and roadside plantation in Vaidehi Vihar.

  • Housing Issues: Rekha Verma of Rakampara’s Mega Housing Society highlighted persistent issues in the housing scheme that remain unresolved since 2019, despite repeated follow-ups with UDA.

Throughout the hearing, Dr. Rawat assured timely action and directed officials to look into pressing grievances. He emphasized the importance of continuing such platforms for transparent public communication and resolution.
