Kutch (Gujarat), July 15, 2025 – In a major conservation move, 20 spotted deer (chital) were successfully reintroduced into a 70-hectare protected zone of the Banni Grasslands through a joint effort by the Gujarat Forest Department and Vantara, a leading wildlife conservation initiative founded by Anant Ambani.

These deer were carefully transported from the Vantara Conservation Centre in Jamnagar using specialized ambulances. Under the close supervision of forest officials, the animals were released into their new habitat, with technical and logistical support provided by Vantara.
Before the reintroduction, expert teams from both Vantara and the Forest Department had conducted a joint habitat assessment to ensure suitability and to plan for future release efforts in the region.
Dr. Brij Kishore Gupta, Director of the Greens Zoological, Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre, emphasized the importance of the collaboration:
“This partnership reflects a scientific and practical approach that will aid in restoring the biodiversity of Banni.”
The Banni Grasslands, spread across 2,618 square kilometers, are home to at least 12 mammal species, making it one of Gujarat’s most ecologically significant regions. This rewilding initiative marks a vital step towards wildlife preservation and ecological balance in the area.
