Bhopal, March 31: Madhya Pradesh is set to witness a dramatic change in weather at the beginning of April, as a strong system bringing hailstorms, rain, and gusty winds is expected to impact over 40 districts across the state. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this unusual weather pattern will be active for the next three days, bringing relief from rising temperatures but also potential hazards in several areas.

Rain and Hail to Replace Summer Heat
Contrary to the usual rise in heat during April, this year the state is likely to experience rain, thunderstorm, hail and winds instead. On Monday (April 1), districts like Ratlam, Mandsaur, Alirajpur, and Barwani will witness cloudy skies and light rainfall. Meanwhile, Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior, Ujjain, and Jabalpur will see clear skies and strong sunlight during the day.
From Tuesday (April 2) onwards, weather instability will increase, with hailstorm alerts issued for Narmadapuram, Betul, Burhanpur, and Khandwa. Gusty winds at 40–50 km/h are also expected in Harda, Khargone, Chhindwara, and Pandhurna, while moderate winds at 30–40 km/h may affect Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen, Sehore, Jhabua, and Sagar.
Thunderstorm Alerts for April 2–3
On April 2, hailstorm warnings are in place for Khargone, Barwani, Dhar, Anuppur, Dindori, and Balaghat. Additionally, over 28 districts including Shivpuri and Harda are likely to experience strong winds and thunder.
By April 3, Baitul may again face hailstorms, and wind speeds may reach 50 km/h in parts of Khandwa, Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Gwalior, Shahdol, Umaria, and Chhindwara. Light to moderate winds are expected in Bhopal, Vidisha, and 24 other districts.

Cyclonic System Behind the Weather Shift
Meteorologists have attributed this change to a cyclonic circulation system forming over central Maharashtra and Konkan region, which will begin to draw moisture from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. The resulting trough over the Deccan Plateau will push weather changes into Madhya Pradesh, affecting its temperature, wind, and precipitation patterns.
Residents are advised to stay alert, particularly in rural and hilly regions, and to follow local weather advisories issued by the IMD and local administration over the coming days.
