Jaunpur, 30 December (Udaipur Kiran) – The Jaunpur district in Uttar Pradesh is experiencing severe cold and dense fog, causing major disruptions in daily life. Visibility has dropped to just 10 meters, prompting the District Magistrate to order the closure of all schools from Class 1 to Intermediate until December 30.
On Monday, the sun remained hidden throughout the day as cold winds forced residents to bundle up against the chill. The district recorded a maximum temperature of 19 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 9 degrees Celsius. With winds blowing at 10 kilometers per hour and dense fog covering the area, vehicles were seen moving very slowly on the roads. People were seen gathering around fires to keep warm. Both humans and animals are struggling to cope with the harsh cold conditions.
On Tuesday, the maximum temperature remained at 19 degrees Celsius, while the minimum dropped to 8 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels were at 76 percent, and the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 173. Winds picked up slightly to 8 kilometers per hour.
Speaking on Tuesday, Atul Kumar, the head of the local weather center, said that the drop in temperature has affected many districts across the state. He added that cloud cover is expected to continue, along with further decreases in maximum and minimum temperatures.
The intense cold has led to deserted streets. Dense fog during the night has also impacted bus and train services. Farmers are facing difficulties in irrigating their crops and taking care of their livestock due to the cold.
In view of the severe conditions, District Magistrate Dr. Dinesh Chandra has directed that all schools from Class 1 to Intermediate remain closed until December 30.
