Record Temperature Drop in Madhya Pradesh as Three Weather Systems Trigger Heavy Rains

Bhopal, October 31 (Udaipur Kiran): The weather across Madhya Pradesh has undergone a major shift, with three active weather systems causing widespread rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds. These changing conditions have led to a record drop in day temperatures, making residents feel an early onset of winter in the last week of October. In several cities, daytime temperatures have fallen below 23°C. Datia, Guna, Nowgaon, and Tikamgarh were the coldest places in the state on Thursday, while similar conditions are expected to continue on Friday.

Madhya Pradesh weather update

Heavy Rain in Many Districts, Datia Receives the Most
According to the Meteorological Department, Datia recorded the highest rainfall on Thursday at 1.5 inches. Jabalpur received 1.25 inches, Malajkhand 0.75 inches, Guna over 0.5 inches, and Mandla around 0.5 inches of rainfall. In the capital Bhopal, continuous light showers throughout the day kept the temperature below normal levels.

Widespread rainfall was reported in Gwalior, Pachmarhi, Shivpuri, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Chhindwara, Damoh, Khajuraho, Nowgaon, Rewa, Sagar, Satna, Seoni, Sidhi, and Umaria. While the rain brought relief from the heat, it turned disastrous for farmers. Waterlogging in fields damaged standing crops, including paddy, soybean, and vegetables, many of which have started rotting in several regions.

Daytime Chill as Temperatures Drop Below 22°C in Many Areas
Among the five major cities, Bhopal recorded a maximum temperature of 24°C, Indore 23.2°C, Ujjain and Gwalior 24°C each, while Jabalpur recorded 28.2°C. In districts such as Chhindwara, Damoh, Mandla, Rewa, Sagar, Satna, Seoni, Umaria, Betul, Raisen, Ratlam, Sheopur, and Shivpuri, temperatures remained several degrees below normal.

Three Weather Systems Behind the Sudden Change
The Meteorological Department reported that a cyclonic circulation, a depression, and another active system are currently influencing the northern part of Madhya Pradesh. Their combined effect has led to persistent cloud cover and continuous rainfall across the state. These systems are expected to remain active for the next 24 hours. The department has also issued a warning for Friday, predicting light to moderate rain in Jhabua, Alirajpur, Dhar, Barwani, Khargone, Burhanpur, Satna, Rewa, Mauganj, Sidhi, and Singrauli. Bhopal, Jabalpur, Indore, and Gwalior are also likely to experience cloudy skies with intermittent drizzle.

Unusual Cold in October
Generally, mild cold sets in across Madhya Pradesh by the last week of October, but this year’s weather pattern is considered unusual. The combination of rainfall and strong winds has brought an early winter-like chill across the state. Experts suggest that while the weather may gradually become dry in the coming days, there is little chance of any immediate rise in temperature. The current conditions are likely to persist across many regions for a few more days.
