New Delhi, May 12, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran) — The weather is expected to change once again across several parts of the country, with the India Meteorological Department issuing rain and thunderstorm alerts for 19 states on May 12.

After a brief spell of clear weather over the last few days, the department has warned of fresh rain, thunderstorms and strong winds in several regions including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Punjab. Lightning activity is also expected in many areas, while hilly regions may face the risk of landslides due to rainfall.
According to the weather department, a cyclonic circulation has formed over parts of West Bengal and Odisha at upper atmospheric levels, which may trigger unstable weather conditions in several states.
In Delhi and nearby areas, moderate rainfall and thunderstorms are likely. The department said the maximum temperature in the national capital may reach around 39 degrees Celsius.
In Bihar, rain and thunderstorm warnings have been issued for East Champaran, West Champaran, Gopalganj, Madhepura, Vaishali, Samastipur, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Supaul and Madhubani districts. Wind speeds may reach up to 70 kilometres per hour, raising concerns for farmers and standing crops.
In Jharkhand, yellow alerts for rainfall and thunderstorms have been issued in Giridih, Bokaro and West Singhbhum districts.
Hilly states are also expected to witness changing weather conditions. Rain accompanied by strong winds is likely in Rudraprayag, Bageshwar and Pauri Garhwal districts of Uttarakhand. Several districts of Himachal Pradesh may also receive rainfall.
The department has further predicted rain in high-altitude areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit and Baltistan.
In Punjab, rainfall and strong winds are expected in Amritsar, Pathankot, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib and Hoshiarpur districts.
Rain alerts have also been issued in several districts of Rajasthan including Alwar, Sikar, Churu, Barmer, Karauli, Jodhpur and Jhunjhunu.
In Madhya Pradesh, districts including Chhatarpur, Bhind, Umaria, Tikamgarh, Indore, Katni and Singrauli are also likely to receive rainfall.
