Rain Soaks Madhya Pradesh Amid Early Winter Chill; Heavy Rain Alert in Six Districts

Bhopal, October 28 (Udaipur Kiran) — In Madhya Pradesh, the weather has taken an unusual turn — blending the retreat of the monsoon with the arrival of early winter. The final week of October has turned out to be unseasonably cool and humid, as active systems from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal continue to bring widespread rainfall across the state. According to the Meteorological Department, this spell of rain may continue into the first week of November.

Cloudy skies and intermittent showers have dominated much of the state. On Monday, heavy rain was recorded in Sheopur and Shivpuri — 56 mm and 34 mm respectively till 5:30 p.m. Light to moderate showers were also reported in Bhopal, Chambal-Gwalior, Indore, and Ujjain divisions. Light rain was seen again on Tuesday morning, adding a touch of chill to the air before the onset of full winter.

Meteorologists say that five weather systems are currently active over Madhya Pradesh, with three of them in strong form — a cyclone over the Bay of Bengal, a low-pressure area over the Arabian Sea, and a western disturbance over northern India. Their combined effect has increased moisture and cloud cover across the state, resulting in continuous rainfall in many areas.

Light to moderate rainfall was reported from Gwalior, Ujjain, Datia, Sidhi, Ratlam, Rewa, and Tikamgarh, while drizzles occurred in Guna, Morena, Chhatarpur, Khajuraho, and Mandsaur. The weather department said the ongoing showers are part of “post-monsoon activity” and may continue into early November.

Heavy Rain Alert in Six Districts

The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in six districts — Seoni, Balaghat, Mandla, Dindori, Anuppur, and Singrauli — on October 29 and 30. Light to moderate rain is also expected in Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, and Jabalpur regions.

The Bhopal weather center has forecast rain and thunder accompanied by strong winds in parts of Chambal, Gwalior, Indore, and Ujjain divisions within the next 24 hours. Citizens have been advised to remain cautious due to the possibility of lightning in some areas.

Temperature Fluctuations Across Cities

Due to rainfall, maximum temperatures have dropped across the state, while humidity has caused a slight rise in minimum temperatures. The day’s temperatures were recorded as follows:

• Bhopal: Max 30.4°C, Min 20.4°C

• Indore: Max 29.8°C, Min 20.2°C

• Gwalior: Max 23.4°C, Min 21.6°C

• Jabalpur: Max 31.8°C, Min 20.5°C

Experts noted that while the cold has set in gradually, temperatures will drop sharply once the western disturbance weakens and the skies clear.

Tawa Dam Gates Opened

Due to continuous rainfall, water levels have risen in several rivers and reservoirs. On Monday, authorities opened three gates of the Tawa Dam, releasing 16,070 cusecs of water. The water level in the dam has reached 1,166.30 feet. With consistent inflow from the catchment area, the dam’s gates have been opened 79 times this monsoon season.

Cold to Intensify After November 6

Meteorologists predict snowfall in northern hill states due to an active western disturbance. Once the system passes, cold northern winds will move toward Madhya Pradesh. From November 6 onward, the state is likely to experience a sharper dip in temperatures, with chilly mornings and nights and mild cold winds during the day.
