Amsterdam, August 24: The Indian women’s hockey team has been eliminated from the FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup 2026 after a 0-0 draw against Australia on Sunday. Despite a hard-fought match, neither team managed to score in the four quarters. Australia’s advancement to the semifinals was secured due to their superior goal difference over India. The Indian team will now compete for the fifth/sixth place.
Played at the Wagner Hockey Stadium in Amsterdam, the match saw Australia earn several penalty corners, while India consistently tried to apply pressure.
Indian player Baljeet Kaur received a green card in the seventh minute, followed by Australia’s Tatum Stewart in the eleventh minute. A total of nine penalty corners were awarded during the match, but both teams failed to convert these opportunities into goals. After four quarters, the score remained 0-0, with both teams settling for one point each.
India finished third in Pool E with two points from three matches. The Netherlands topped the pool with three wins and advanced to the semifinals, while Australia secured second place with two wins out of three matches.
The Indian women’s hockey team began their campaign in Pool D with a 2-2 draw against China, followed by a convincing 6-1 victory over South Africa and another 0-0 draw against England. However, they faced a 0-2 defeat against the Netherlands, which ultimately led to their exit after the draw with Australia.
