Ahmedabad, August 24: A two-day event titled ‘Bharat Jal Vimarsh 2047’ was held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, bringing together water conservationists from across the country. Vijay Pal Baghel, known as the ‘Green Man of India,’ emphasized that water and air cannot be created, only preserved, warning that the next world war could be fought over water. He and other Padma Shri awardees stressed the importance of water conservation and awareness, echoing the message that “Water is life.”
Baghel stated, “I work on environmental issues under the banner of ‘Plant Trees, Save Trees.’ This event, organized by two institutions, aims to reflect on the importance of water, as it cannot be manufactured.” He highlighted the critical link between water and climate change, asserting that the depletion of groundwater has led to severe environmental issues.
He further noted that during the COVID-19 pandemic, nature thrived when humans were confined indoors, showcasing the need for a balanced relationship with the environment. “Every drop of water is precious, and we must ensure our breathing is sustainable,” he added.
Padma Shri awardee Seth Pal Singh from Saharanpur expressed gratitude to Dr. Mor Joshi for organizing the workshop, reiterating the message that “Water is essential for life.” He highlighted India’s rich diversity and the reliance on rivers for survival, urging collective efforts to conserve water.
Bharat Bhushan Tyagi, another Padma Shri recipient, emphasized the need for a comprehensive discussion on water policies and strategies, calling for a shift in mindset towards nature conservation.
Lawyer Mahesh Goyal, who has worked on water conservation for 18 years, shared insights from his published book on the reasons behind water scarcity, advocating for two key resolutions: to avoid wasting water and to collect rainwater.
This event aims to raise awareness about the critical importance of water conservation for a sustainable future.
