Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Indonesia and Singapore from 29th May to 2nd June during which he will hold bilateral talks with leaders of both the nations on key issues, including the defence sector. The visit takes forward India’s Act East policy whereby relations with ASEAN countries will be further strengthened.
The Prime Minister is also likely to sign key agreements in various sectors with both the nations. On his first official visit to Indonesia on 29th May the PM ‘s agenda will include a number of important programs.
PM Modi will meet Indonesian President Joko Widodo with whom he will hold bilateral talks.
The Prime Minister will pay tributes at the Kalibata National Hero cemetery in Jakarta.
He will also address a gathering of the Indian community there. Also on the agenda is an address to a forum of top businessmen. Further, the PM will inaugurate a kite festival that will reflect the common theme of Ramayana and Mahabharata, showcasing cultural links between the two countries.
On June 1, on the second leg of his visit, PM Modi will hold
– extensive talks with Singaporean PM Lee Hsien Loong
– address CEOs of top 20 companies
– and is likely to ink a number of pacts in the areas of defence, space and skill development.
– the PM will also participate in an interaction with the president and board members of the Nanyang University, one of the premier educational institutions globally, and
– inaugurate a plaque at a place where Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes were immersed.
A key highlight of Modi’s visit to Singapore will be his key note address at the Shangri-La dialogue. Modi is the first Indian PM who has been invited to deliver the key note address at the forum.
The Prime Minister’s two-nation tour is expected to focus on strengthening economic ties and defence cooperation. The spotlight will also be on maritime cooperation and the Indo-Pacific region, besides push for greater connectivity and people-to-people contact.
