New Delhi, May 11, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran) – Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to citizens for the second time within 24 hours to reduce fuel consumption, stressing that saving oil is now the responsibility of every citizen amid growing global instability and tensions in West Asia.

Addressing a public gathering in Vadodara, the Prime Minister said the world has been facing continuous instability over the past few years, including the Covid-19 pandemic, global economic challenges and now rising tensions in West Asia. He said these developments are affecting countries across the world, including India.
Calling the West Asia situation one of the biggest crises of the decade, PM Modi said that just as the country collectively faced the Covid pandemic, India would also overcome the current challenge together. He said the government is making all possible efforts to minimise the impact on common citizens, but public participation is essential during this period.
The Prime Minister said citizens must prioritise their duties towards the nation, recalling how people had supported the country during previous wars and national crises.
A day earlier, while addressing a programme in Hyderabad, PM Modi had urged people to reduce the use of petrol and diesel and adopt measures such as using metro services and public transport, car-pooling and encouraging railway transport for goods movement. He also promoted the use of electric vehicles.
Referring to practices followed during the Covid period, he suggested adopting work-from-home arrangements and virtual meetings wherever possible. He also advised citizens to avoid unnecessary foreign travel, overseas vacations and destination weddings abroad in order to help protect foreign exchange reserves.
The Prime Minister further appealed to people to prioritise domestic tourism and avoid non-essential gold purchases for one year.
On Monday, while repeating these points in Gujarat, PM Modi once again urged people to stand with the government during challenging times. His repeated appeal within 24 hours has triggered discussions over concerns about possible economic or supply-related pressures arising from global developments.
