Sajjangarh Declared No-Plastic Zone

Udaipur, June 5 (Udaipur Kiran): On the occasion of World Environment Day, Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary, Monsoon Palace and Sajjangarh Biological Park in Udaipur were declared plastic bottle-free zones on Friday with the support of Neer Amrit Foundation. The initiative has been launched by the Forest Department (Wildlife) to promote environmental conservation and clean tourism and is expected to serve as a model for tourist destinations across Rajasthan and the country.

No-Plastic Zone

Sajjangarh is among the most popular tourist attractions in Udaipur, receiving a large number of domestic and international visitors every day. Discarded plastic water bottles had become a growing challenge for wildlife, the environment and the natural beauty of the area, prompting the department to take this step.

Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Sedu Ram Yadav said that a complete ban has been imposed on plastic water bottles in Sajjangarh Biological Park and Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary. A fine of Rs 1,000 will be imposed if plastic water bottles are found being used within the sanctuary area.

He said that tourists will be able to purchase 500 ml drinking water in glass bottles for Rs 50 near the Sajjangarh ticket window. An amount of Rs 40 will be refunded when the empty bottle is returned. The arrangement has been introduced on a pilot basis from World Environment Day through Neer Amrit Foundation.

The initiative is expected to significantly reduce the consumption of single-use plastic while promoting cleanliness and environmental protection at tourist destinations.

Deputy Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Yadvendra Singh Chundawat, Assistant Conservator of Forests Surabhi Sharma, Range Forest Officer Vinod Kumar Tanwar, Range Forest Officer Siyaram Meena, Range Forest Officer Prabhulal Meena, Forester Ajit Singh Ranawat, Neer Amrit founder Bhupendra Singh and Rahul Bhatnagar of Green People Society were present during the programme.

The guests also planted saplings in the Sajjangarh sanctuary area and conveyed a message of environmental conservation.
