Abhishek Banerjees Z Plus Security Withdrawn in West Bengal

Kolkata, May 11: The West Bengal government has decided to withdraw the ‘Z Plus’ security of Abhishek Banerjee. According to officials, the Trinamool Congress General Secretary and MP will no longer receive the additional security and special pilot car facility that he had enjoyed for over a decade.

Following the change in government in West Bengal, the reduction of his security began immediately. The new state government has now fully revoked his ‘Z Plus’ security, with an administrative order issued on Monday afternoon.

Officials stated that not only is Abhishek Banerjee’s additional security being removed, but the pilot car facility he received is also being withdrawn. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari held several meetings at Nabanna on Monday, starting with an administrative review meeting, followed by discussions with district magistrates and senior police officials.

Sources indicate that security issues concerning leaders were discussed in this meeting. The Chief Minister sent a clear message that unnecessary security would not be provided to any leader unless there is a real threat. He questioned the expenditure of government funds merely to display influence or prestige, leading to the change in Abhishek Banerjee’s security classification.

Previously, Abhishek Banerjee was seen traveling with a pilot car, but following the government’s directive, this facility will no longer be available to him. He will now receive only the standard security that is typically provided to an MP.

Administrative sources claim that Abhishek’s security arrangements will now align with the guidelines of the Ministry of Home Affairs, with additional security forces and special facilities being phased out.

Since the announcement of the election results, Abhishek Banerjee’s security has been gradually reduced. During the Trinamool government, there was heavy police security around his office, but this was the first to be removed after the government change. Subsequently, security outside his residence on Harish Mukherjee Road has also been reduced, with police security and equipment removed from his home, ‘Shantiniketan.’

Additionally, security outside former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s residence has also been diminished. Just 24 hours after the government change, barricades outside her home on Harish Chatterjee Street were removed, and Kolkata police later recalled additional security personnel.
