According to information received, the thieves broke into the house of Mangilal Sen and created havoc inside the premises. The family remained unaware of the intrusion during the night. When family members woke up on Thursday morning, they found articles scattered in one of the rooms and discovered that a trunk kept inside the house was missing.

Mangilal Sen said that due to the sound of a running fan, family members did not realize that thieves had entered the house. Later, while searching for the missing trunk around the house, family members found it about 300 metres away under a mango tree with its lock broken and belongings strewn around.

The burglars allegedly stole a gold chain, earrings, nose ornaments, silver kandoras, rakdi, anklets and other silver jewellery. They also took away ₹40,000 in cash and two mobile phones kept inside the trunk.

The value of the stolen property is estimated to be more than ₹4 lakh.

Police have registered a case on the complaint of the house owner. A police team visited the spot, inspected the crime scene, collected evidence and started an investigation to trace the accused.
