New Delhi, September 15 (Udaipur Kiran) : Bharat Kumar Kuthati has been appointed as India’s next High Commissioner to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, according to an announcement from the Ministry of External Affairs on September 16.

Kuthati, an Indian Foreign Service officer from the 2006 batch, is currently serving as the High Commissioner to Botswana. The ministry expressed confidence in his ability to strengthen India’s ties with Trinidad and Tobago. Before becoming a High Commissioner, Kuthati served as the Regional Passport Officer in Bengaluru, where he played a significant role in modernizing passport and consular services. Since taking charge in Gaborone, he has focused on enhancing bilateral relations between India and Botswana, particularly in areas such as the ITEC program, ICCR scholarships, defense, health, education, agriculture, and digital skills.

His tenure has also seen initiatives for training the women’s cricket team in India, discussions on a Memorandum of Understanding in sports and youth affairs, and efforts to create employment opportunities for local youth. Kuthati is regarded as an experienced diplomat actively promoting India’s developmental partnership with Africa.

India and Botswana share a long-standing diplomatic relationship, established shortly after Botswana gained independence in 1966. The two countries have built their ties on mutual friendship and cooperation, with India opening a High Commission in Gaborone in 1987, followed by Botswana establishing its embassy in New Delhi in 2006. The bilateral trade between the nations has primarily focused on diamonds and gemstones, with Indian companies playing a crucial role in cutting and polishing.
