Kolkata Police Volunteers to Wear Saffron Uniforms for Durga Puja

Kolkata, September 16 (Udaipur Kiran) : Kolkata Police has announced that its volunteers will don saffron-colored uniforms during the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations. This initiative aims to provide comfort and ease for the 20,000 volunteers who will be on duty throughout the festival.

According to officials from Lalbazar, the police headquarters, the new uniforms are designed to ensure that volunteers can perform their duties comfortably for extended periods. The cost of producing these uniforms, which includes both clothing and caps, is estimated at ₹89 lakh.

Typically, volunteers have worn half-sleeve T-shirts during their duties, but this year’s festivities will see a shift to full-sleeve and collared attire in two shades of saffron—dark and light. The uniforms will feature the Kolkata Police logo in white on the front, with “Kolkata Police Volunteer” printed in smaller letters on the front and larger letters on the back.

In addition to police personnel, home guards and civic volunteers will also assist during the festivities, which will last until Vijayadashami. The police rely heavily on these volunteers to maintain law and order and manage traffic during the crowded festival period.

Training for the volunteers will commence after Mahalaya, ensuring they are well-prepared for their responsibilities. The police have allocated ₹73 lakh for the uniforms and ₹16 lakh for the caps, which will also be in orange.

Volunteers will be stationed at major pandals across Kolkata, where large crowds gather to celebrate, focusing on ensuring the safety and security of attendees.
