Patriots Sign Four-Time Pro Bowl WR Stefon Diggs to Boost Offense for 2025 Season

Foxborough, MA – The New England Patriots have reportedly made a massive move to revamp their offense, signing four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The veteran wideout, coming off an ACL injury, brings star power and elite production to a Patriots receiving corps that has long lacked a true No. 1 option.

Diggs to Headline Patriots WR Room After ACL Comeback

Diggs, 30, visited Foxborough last week and is recovering from ACL reconstruction surgery following an injury suffered in October 2024 while with the Houston Texans. Despite the setback, there’s optimism that he’ll be ready for Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season, according to Schefter.

Prior to the injury, Diggs remained one of the league’s top pass-catchers. In just eight games, he recorded 47 receptions for 496 yards and 3 touchdowns — on pace for yet another 1,000-yard season. His 2024 stats projected over a full season would yield 100 catches, 1,054 yards, and 6 TDs.

A Familiar Face for Patriots Staff

Diggs reunites with several coaches familiar with his game. He previously worked with Todd Downing in Minnesota, who now serves as New England’s wide receivers coach. His stint in Houston also brought him into contact with former Patriots executive Nick Caserio and receivers coach Ben McDaniels, brother of ex-Patriots OC Josh McDaniels. With new head coach Mike Vrabel at the helm, Diggs adds a proven weapon to the Patriots’ evolving offensive system.

Patriots Offense Gets a Major Upgrade

This signing gives second-year quarterback Drake Maye a true top target, reminiscent of Diggs’ role in Buffalo where he helped Josh Allen emerge as an elite passer. From 2020 to 2023, Diggs was a dominant force for the Bills, including leading the league in receptions (127) and receiving yards (1,535) in 2020.

During his tenure in Buffalo, Diggs was a consistent thorn in New England’s side, averaging 81.6 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns in 8 games against the Patriots.

Wide Receiver Room Gets Its Leader

Diggs now headlines a Patriots receiver group that includes:

  • Kendrick Bourne

  • Mack Hollins (free agent signing)

  • DeMario Douglas

  • Kayshon Boutte

  • Ja’Lynn Polk

  • Javon Baker

While New England is still expected to add another receiver in the 2025 NFL Draft, landing Diggs marks a turning point in their offensive rebuild.

Diggs Fills Void After Missed Targets

The Patriots had reportedly shown interest in Chris Godwin (re-signed with Tampa Bay) and Cooper Kupp (now with Seattle), but missed out on both. With Diggs now in the fold, the Patriots finally secure the game-changing receiver they’ve long pursued.
