Lucknow, May 1: Panic ensued at Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, when security personnel discovered an illegal firearm in a passenger’s bag during a routine security check. The passenger was reportedly attempting to smuggle the weapon to Dubai.
The incident occurred as a young man was preparing to board Air India Express flight IX-193 to Dubai. During the Level-4 security screening, personnel from the Metal Security Force (MSF) noticed a suspicious object in his bag, prompting them to conduct a thorough inspection.
Upon investigation, security officials found a 12-bore illegal firearm concealed within the bag. The passenger was immediately detained, and further action was initiated.
The arrested individual has been identified as Mahesh Kumar Chauhan, a resident of Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh. Security agencies promptly handed him over to local police, where he is currently being interrogated.
Initial inquiries are focused on determining the source of the illegal weapon and the reasons behind his attempt to transport it to Dubai. Authorities are also investigating whether any other individuals or groups are involved in this case.
Airport administration has assured that security measures are fully alert, emphasizing that all passengers undergo multiple levels of screening to prevent any illegal or dangerous items from reaching aircraft. The police are conducting a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
