OnePlus Open users in the US and Canada have reportedly started receiving the Android 14 update. The software update that comes with the OnePlus OxygenOS 14 UI is rolling out to the US and Canada about a month after its initial release to users in India in February. The size of the update is said to be around 2.54GB and the upgrade process requires around 5GB of free space. After launching the foldable device with Android 13 in October last year, OnePlus faced a long delay in releasing the Android 14 update, considering Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5 received the Android 14 update in November had received.
Several users in the US and Canada reported on Reddit that they received the update after a long wait, especially considering that users in India first received the update almost a month ago.
In addition to upgrading the foldable software to the latest version of Android 14, the update is also expected to bring the February 2024 security patch. However, according to another post on the same subreddit, it won’t offer any special new folding features. Most of the feature updates come from Oppo’s ColorOS 14, copying those already available on the OnePlus 12 (review), which launched with OxygenOS 14 out of the box.
Among the many new features in OxygenOS 14 is Fluid Cloud, which adds a highly dynamic island-like pod to the left of the status bar for live updates from some native and third-party apps. Masu. Also new is Smart Suggestions, which provides live updates for the Always On Lock Screen (AOD) feature of certain third-party apps.
The Recent Folders feature has been renamed to File Dock in Android 13. The phone also comes with lightweight AI features like Smart Image Blur (extracting objects and people from images) and Smart Touch for extracting text from images. As usual, there are also some performance-related improvements reported by some users on the same subreddit.
OnePlus Open launched in October last year after several delays. However, if we look at the same, it significantly outperforms the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, which appears to have received the least update compared to its predecessor. The OnePlus Open has a 7.82-inch folding display and a 6.31-inch cover display. This phone uses an older Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC processor and has 16GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. It’s powered by a 4,805mAh battery and offers 80W wired charging, but no wireless charging. The phone also has a very basic IPX4 rating for water resistance.
