Udaipur, September 3 (Kiran News): The much-awaited reopening of Udaipur’s iconic Nehru Garden, located in the middle of the world-famous Fatehsagar Lake, will take place on September 5. Along with the inauguration, development works worth around ₹10 crore — including a musical fountain and façade lighting — will also be launched.
Udaipur Development Authority (UDA) Commissioner Rahul Jain informed that the Nehru Garden island, spread across about 2 hectares, was transferred from Udaipur Municipal Corporation to UDA for redevelopment following the Chief Minister’s budget announcement for 2024–25. The authority has since completed strengthening and renovation works including civil upgrades, footpaths, water bodies, heritage structures, and horticulture. Considering the lake’s maximum water level, the height of the footpath has also been raised.
Boat services to the garden will officially resume on September 5, coinciding with its reopening for the public and tourists. On the same day, the musical fountain and façade lighting projects worth ₹10 crore will also be inaugurated.
Boating to Start from Rani Road Jetty
Jain said that boating services to Nehru Garden will operate from a newly constructed jetty near the Open Gym Park at Rajiv Gandhi Smriti Udyan on Rani Road. The earlier jetty point near Circuit House and Guru Govind Singh Park has been shifted due to heavy traffic pressure near Kala Kiwad overflow and the lack of parking facilities. Parking arrangements at Rajiv Gandhi Smriti Udyan will help ease congestion for visitors.
Visiting Hours to be Extended Later
Currently, boating services and garden access will be available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. After Diwali, when the tourist season begins, and once the musical fountain and lighting works are completed, the visiting hours will be extended until 9:30 p.m. to allow tourists to enjoy the illuminated attractions in the evening.
