New Delhi, June 4 — The fury of the monsoon continues to unleash widespread devastation across Northeast and Central India. In Manipur, relentless rains have led to severe flooding, affecting more than 1.64 lakh people, while Mizoram has reported 626 landslides within just 11 days, leaving five dead. Meanwhile, strong wind and rain warnings have been issued for parts of Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.

Manipur: Over 1.6 Lakh People Affected, NH-2 Damaged
Manipur has borne the brunt of monsoon-triggered floods, with more than 35,000 homes damaged across the state. At least 4,000 people have been rescued so far, and 77 relief camps have been set up to shelter the displaced. The worst-hit district is Imphal West, where over 56,000 residents are reeling under floodwaters. Parts of Imphal East remain waterlogged for the fourth consecutive day.
A major concern has emerged in terms of connectivity as a 50-meter stretch of National Highway-2, which links Nagaland with Manipur, has caved in, disrupting transport and relief efforts.
Mizoram: Tourists Advised to Stay Away Till June 13
Mizoram has seen an unprecedented number of landslides since May 24, triggered by persistent heavy rains. In just 11 days, 626 landslides have been reported, resulting in five deaths and extensive damage to roads and infrastructure. In view of the situation, the Mizoram government has issued a travel advisory, urging tourists to avoid visiting the state until at least June 13.
Assam: Death Toll Rises to 17, Seven Rivers in Spate
In neighboring Assam, the flood situation remains grim. Six more deaths were reported on Tuesday, bringing the total flood and landslide fatalities to 17 this season. Over 6 lakh people across 21 districts are affected. Seven rivers, including the Katakhal River in Hailakandi, are flowing above the danger mark, raising fears of further inundation.
Central India: Storm Alert for MP, Bihar, Rajasthan
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 60 kmph wind alert for parts of Madhya Pradesh and Bihar. Rain and thunderstorms are likely in 17 districts of MP and 29 districts of Bihar today. A yellow alert for rainfall has also been sounded in 29 districts of Rajasthan, as the western state braces for unstable weather patterns.
Growing Climate Concerns
The scale and frequency of extreme weather events across the country — from landslides and floods in the Northeast to windstorms in Central India — have raised urgent questions about disaster preparedness and climate resilience in vulnerable regions.
