Bhopal, June 18 – The monsoon has officially entered 19 districts of Madhya Pradesh, including Indore, bringing much-needed relief and a shift in weather patterns across the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipates the monsoon will reach the capital city of Bhopal, Ujjain, Jabalpur, and other remaining districts within the next 24 hours.
A heavy rainfall alert has been issued for Wednesday in five districts bordering Gujarat and Rajasthan. These regions are bracing for significant downpours, with predictions of over four inches of rain within a 24-hour period. Strong winds are also expected to accompany the rain across most districts in the state.
Active Weather Systems Fueling Monsoon Advance
According to the IMD, four active weather systems are currently influencing the region. A low-pressure area and a cyclonic circulation system are present over the Gujarat region and its neighboring areas. Additionally, a Western Disturbance and a trough activity are contributing to the atmospheric conditions. These combined systems are expected to keep the weather dynamic across Madhya Pradesh for the next four days.
The districts under the heavy rain alert include Dhar, Jhabua, Ratlam, Neemuch, and Mandsaur, all located in the Malwa-Nimar region (Indore-Ujjain division). Beyond these areas, Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, Jabalpur, and the rest of the state are predicted to experience rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms.
Widespread Rainfall and Temperature Drop
The monsoon’s arrival has already brought widespread rain and a noticeable drop in daytime temperatures across many parts of the state. On Tuesday, tragic incidents included the death of two girls in Singrauli due to lightning strikes. Rainfall was recorded in numerous districts, including Bhopal, Rajgarh, Dhar, Ratlam, Chhindwara, Jabalpur, Mandla, Satna, and Tikamgarh.
Shivpuri recorded the highest temperature at 40 degrees Celsius, while Pachmarhi, the state’s sole hill station, reported the lowest at 28.2 degrees Celsius. Among the five major cities, Bhopal registered 34.4 degrees, Indore 32.2 degrees, Gwalior 38.5 degrees, Ujjain 33 degrees, and Jabalpur 34.5 degrees Celsius.
As the monsoon progresses, residents across Madhya Pradesh can expect continued relief from the pre-monsoon heat, albeit with the need for caution, particularly in areas prone to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
