Udaipur, April 8 – In a significant development for healthcare and education in Rajasthan’s tribal belt, the Central Government has initiated an evaluation process to establish a medical college in Salumber district, following a formal request by Udaipur MP Dr. Mannalal Rawat.
Dr. Rawat had recently written to Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, urging the ministry to consider setting up a medical college in the newly formed Salumber district, carved out from Udaipur. In response, the Ministry of Health has confirmed that an evaluation is underway to assess the feasibility of such an institution in the region.
A Step Towards Accessible Healthcare for Tribal Communities
Highlighting the region’s needs, Dr. Rawat noted that Salumber is a predominantly tribal area lacking any medical college. Residents currently have to travel to Udaipur and other districts for medical education and advanced healthcare services.
In his letter, Dr. Rawat emphasized that the central government’s policy of “One District, One Medical College” supports the case for establishing a medical institution in Salumber. He added that a new college would bring not only better healthcare but also create opportunities for local youth to pursue medical education closer to home.
Government Response and Future Outlook
In his response, Union Minister Nadda acknowledged the necessity and confirmed that a feasibility study is in progress. The move aligns with the central government’s aim of improving rural and tribal healthcare infrastructure across India.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by Dr. Rawat to improve healthcare access in newly formed districts like Salumber. Many residents, especially from tribal communities, face difficulties in accessing timely and quality medical care due to limited transportation and infrastructure. The proposed medical college is expected to bridge this gap significantly.
