Mumbai, January 5 – Bollywood actress Malaika Arora, known for her dedication to fitness, recently shared insights on the benefits of pranayama for both body and mind. On Monday, she posted a video on her Instagram account demonstrating various pranayama techniques.
In the video, Malaika highlighted five key pranayama practices that promote physical and mental well-being. The caption listed these as Bhastrika, Kapalbhati, Anulom Vilom, Bhramari, and Udgith pranayama.
Bhastrika pranayama enhances lung capacity, increases oxygen supply in the body, and helps reduce mental stress. However, people with high blood pressure, heart conditions, or respiratory issues should avoid this without medical advice, as rapid breathing might cause dizziness, weakness, or breathlessness.
Kapalbhati involves forceful exhalation, which helps eliminate toxins, improves digestion, strengthens abdominal muscles, and boosts energy. Individuals with stomach or diaphragm problems, as well as pregnant women, should refrain from this practice to avoid discomfort in the abdomen or chest.
Anulom Vilom consists of slow inhaling and exhaling through the nose. It aids in mental calmness, improves concentration, and enhances sleep quality. Those with breathing difficulties, blood pressure, or heart issues should practice this under expert guidance, as incorrect technique may lead to dizziness, breathlessness, or fatigue.
Bhramari pranayama is performed by making a humming sound while exhaling, which calms the brain, alleviates headaches, and reduces mental stress. However, it should be avoided by individuals with ear problems, excessive noise sensitivity, or severe headaches, since loud or prolonged practice can worsen these conditions.
Udgith pranayama involves deep inhalation followed by a slow voice chant during exhalation. It strengthens the lungs and relieves mental tension. People experiencing breathing difficulties or throat issues should be cautious, as this practice can cause throat irritation, coughing, or breathlessness.
Malaika’s detailed explanation emphasizes the importance of practicing pranayama correctly and consulting health professionals when necessary to maximize benefits and avoid potential risks.
