Patna, May 2: In a significant move to enhance urban mobility, Pankaj Kumar Pal, Secretary of the Road Construction Department, conducted a comprehensive on-site inspection of major roads and flyovers across Patna. The inspection focused on riding quality, technical deficiencies, and traffic disruptions, with strict deadlines set for corrective actions.
During the inspection of key corridors such as JP Ganga Path, Atal Path, and Patli Path, the Secretary emphasized that any negligence in maintenance would not be tolerated. He instructed officials to repair the main road on Nehru Path within 15 days and to address issues at the Shivpuri Flyover, Digha Flyover, and the approach settlement near Digha Rotary within three days, warning of strict action for delays.
Several problems were identified on the stretch from Digha to Didarganj on JP Ganga Path. The Secretary noted that the approach slab near Kurji Bridge had sunk and directed officials to complete repairs within 10 days.
These measures aim to improve safety and travel comfort on this vital riverfront corridor. The inspection of Patli Path revealed deterioration in its expansion joints and wearing coat. The Secretary instructed officials to submit a revised detailed project report (DPR) within three days and expedite maintenance work from AIIMS roundabout to JP Setu approach road through SDMC.
To address the long-standing traffic jam issue near Raja Bazaar Flyover, several crucial decisions were made. These include identifying land for cutting four trees near the junction in coordination with officials, potentially relocating a temple (pending approval), removing bus stops, gantries, electric poles, and other roadside obstructions, clearing encroachments at Aashiyana Turn, and initiating land acquisition for road widening.
These steps are expected to significantly ease traffic flow in one of the city’s busiest areas. Discussing the traffic jam issue between R-Block and Patna Railway Station roundabout, the Secretary stressed the need for a long-term solution.
Reiterating the department’s commitment, Pankaj Kumar Pal stated that building quality roads remains a top priority. He instructed engineers to adhere strictly to deadlines and ensure that the public does not face any inconvenience.
The focus remains on enhancing the experience of traveling on Patna’s roads, addressing deficiencies, and ensuring smooth traffic flow.
