Ulaanbaatar, June 22: India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar arrived in Mongolia on Monday. During this visit, he aims to enhance mutual cooperation and strengthen the special partnership between the two nations.
Upon his arrival, he was welcomed by Mongolia’s State Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Munkhtushig Ilkhanajav. Expressing his gratitude on social media platform X, Minister Jaishankar stated, “Happy to be in Mongolia today. Thank you to State Secretary Munkhtushig Ilkhanajav for the warm welcome. We hope to further advance our special partnership.”
Dr. Jaishankar will be in Mongolia and the Republic of Korea from June 22 to June 25. The purpose of this trip is to bolster India’s bilateral partnership while advancing cooperation in strategic, economic, and technical fields.
The Ministry of External Affairs announced this visit on Monday, stating that Jaishankar will be in Mongolia on June 22 and 23 before heading to South Korea on June 24 and 25.
The statement further mentioned, “The External Affairs Minister will meet with Mongolia’s top leadership during his stay and will hold discussions with his counterpart, Foreign Minister B. Battsetseg.”
Additionally, the Minister will visit South Korea, where he is expected to engage in talks with South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and deliver a keynote speech at the Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity on June 25.
The visit aims to review mutual cooperation between the two countries and focus on strengthening long-standing relations. India and Mongolia share close ties rooted in cultural, spiritual, and democratic values. Diplomatic relations were established on December 24, 1955, with Mongolia opening its embassy in New Delhi the following year, while India opened its resident mission in Ulaanbaatar on February 22, 1971.
This trip comes a few months after Jaishankar’s meeting with Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhna during his visit to India on October 13, 2025, which was seen as a significant step in deepening bilateral relations.
Earlier in April 2026, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung visited India, paving the way for discussions on advancing the joint strategic vision roadmap between India and the Republic of Korea during Dr. Jaishankar’s visit.
