Kolkata, June 22: Shrachi Rar Tigers showcased an impressive performance to win the title of Season 3 of the Bengal T20 League. In a rain-affected final at Eden Gardens, they defeated Sobisco Smashers Malda by 9 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis rule.
Due to rain, the match was reduced to 15 overs for both teams. Batting first, Shrachi Tigers scored 165 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. The team’s start was rocky, with Shubham Dey dismissed without scoring, and Sumit falling for just 2 runs. Suman Gupta managed only 7 runs, leaving Shrachi Tigers in a precarious position at 10 runs with 3 wickets down. However, captain Shahbaz Ahmed and Gaurav Singh Chouhan steadied the innings with a crucial partnership of 144 runs for the fourth wicket.
Shahbaz played a stellar innings of 88 runs off 46 balls, striking at a rate of 191 with 7 fours and 6 sixes. Gaurav contributed significantly with a quick 55 runs off 30 balls, including 1 four and 5 sixes. Rohit Kumar remained unbeaten on 9 runs from 3 balls. For Sobisco Smashers, Akhil took 2 wickets.
Before Sobisco Smashers could begin their chase, rain interrupted again, setting a revised target of 107 runs in 9 overs. However, they could only manage 97 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Abhimanyu Ishwaran was the top scorer for Sobisco Smashers with 38 runs off 22 balls, while Akhil added 16 runs off 5 balls.
In bowling, Sukhmeet Singh from Shrachi Rar Tigers took 2 wickets for 14 runs. The victorious Shrachi Rar Tigers received a cash prize of 50 lakhs, while the runners-up, Sobisco Smashers Malda, were awarded 30 lakhs.
