The iPhone 16 and Google Pixel 9 are two of the most anticipated smartphones in 2024, and a report suggests they could be one big thing – Samsung displays. Google is expected to present its smartphones at the Made by Google event on August 13, while Apple’s presentation will take place in September. However, both smartphones will feature Samsung Display’s ‘M14’ screen.
iPhone 16, Pixel 9 displays
South Korean publication ETNews reports that Samsung Display is the main supplier of OLED screens for the iPhone 16 and Google Pixel 9 devices. Samsung Display produces screens based on an organic material structure called “M14”. Current additions. Currently, the Galaxy S24 Ultra uses the highest quality OLED screen, which is called “M13”. On the other hand, the iPhone 15 Pro is believed to feature the same ‘M12’ display as its predecessor.
Notably, OLED displays contain organic materials to display colors. Unlike LCD screens, which use liquid crystals for backlighting, the pixels in OLED displays are self-illuminating. This results in a wider viewing angle and better color reproduction, especially when exposing black shadows.
While all of Google’s Pixel 9 series smartphones are expected to feature an M14 display, the report suggests that only the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will have it. The basic iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus can use an “M12” screen. Samsung Display is rumored to supply Google with four “M14” displays – three for the Pixel 9 variants and one for the Google Pixel Fold.
Citing an industry official, the report says that Samsung has ordered materials to make the “M14” panel and has begun production of the product.
